Section titled “Considerations when designing a Vehicle Fleet for purposes of an Analysis”The HDM5 framework allows great latitude in selecting representative vehicles (and creating custom vehicles) for an analysis. It is up to the analyst to determine the appropriate number and mix of vehicles to use. One should avoid having more vehicles than the traffic data warrants and their selection should be based primarily on factors such as power source (petrol vs electric vehicles etc.), likely variations in VOC between representative vehicles, loading, and occupancies.
Common situations where multiple vehicles of a single type might be used are:
- Different passenger cars are specified, each with a different fuel type, to enable for the modelling of a fleet transition to electric vehicles over time.
- Different heavy trucks, with different loading characteristics for each.
- Fleets where used vehicles are being introduced in large numbers.
